Mad Fish Farms is a unique startup. The business is a new startup company within a company. This new business, Mad Fish Farms, is an aquaponics and hydroponic farm located in Dyersville, Iowa.
By utilizing the aquaponics and hydroponics method of raising fish and vegetables, the company is able to produce year-round produce and fish in climate controlled greenhouses. This is allowing them to have a consistent quality product throughout the year without the use of harmful pesticides and chemicals.
Restaurants and grocery stores in the local area are benefiting from their products. These stores and restaurants are able to offer fresh fish and vegetables to their clients even during the cold Iowa winter months. Mad Fish Farms is also selling their fresh produce at the Dubuque Winter Farmer’s Market.
The business worked with the SBDC to develop their business plan and worked through the process of developing financials through a business planning application called LivePlan. LivePlan allows for a real-time collaborative approach to developing the business plan.
