The Iowa Small Business Development Center at Eastern Iowa Community College helped Linda Mosher develop a business plan, conducted market research, and provided personalized counseling and training so she could start her promotional products company.
When Linda Mosher came to the Eastern Iowa Small Business Development Center (SBDC), she had many years of experience in the promotional products industry and connections with vendors and potential clients. She was anxious to start her own business.
Linda had an experienced person in mind for a sales position, but needed help in selecting, hiring, and managing office staff. She also wanted clarification on the pros and cons of the various legal structures her business might take. After the SBDC’s counseling she decided her company should be a Limited Liability Company.
SBDC Regional Director Marsha Rinetti worked closely with Linda on her business plan and Iowa SBDC’s market researcher did free market research for Linda. Linda then considered possible locations for her new company and settled on an office suite in a centrally-located business park.
Marsha suggested that Linda take QuickBooks classes and also directed her to other resources so she could streamline her accounting processes. Marsha also gave Linda advice on tax requirements and tax processes.
Linda praises the assistance she received from the Iowa SBDC saying, “Marsha was instrumental in guiding us in our business planning in a variety of facets. Some areas we needed lots of help and Marsha helped us tweak some ideas and some areas we needed more guidance in. Marsha was knowledgeable to help us get our business up and running smoothly. The SBDC was such a great resource for us.”
Logo Pro, LLC opened in January 2014 and so far has created three jobs. Linda and her husband, Brian, invested thousands of dollars of their own capital in the business and company sales have exceeded expectations. This promotional products distributor markets clients’ businesses on giveaway items like mugs, pens, water bottles, and t-shirts. Logo Pro is able to supply companies with every possible promotional product they might want from over 3,000 suppliers.
