Almost thirteen years ago, Ashley Smith began her career as a sole proprietor. She first started her massage business in August of 2012, and has since opened Main Street Stop as of June 2022. Located in Adair, Iowa, Main Street Stop offers therapeutic and prenatal massage therapy, lymphatic drainage, reflexology, facials, microdermabrasion’s, full body waxing, lash extensions, lash/brow tinting, dry salt therapy, infrared sauna, and spray tanning.
A dream of Ashley’s for many years was opening the brand-new building. In June 2022, she accomplished this with the grand opening of Main Street Stop. She always questioned if she could make this dream a reality but stated that her husband had been a huge help with his unconditional support throughout the entire project. Ashley also credits her listening skills and her empathetic traits for her success along with her awesome personality and ability to relate to her colleagues and customers on a personal level.
Ashley states, “Knowing how to communicate, building trust, and having a relationship with the client is how you keep them coming back.”
Ashley also pointed out the useful help provided by Jamie David, the Regional Director of the South-Central Iowa SBDC center. She mentioned that she was overwhelmed with her business plan, but with Jamie’s help it all came together easily.
“I have already suggested the SBDC, especially Jamie, to people for assistance with their startups!”
Ashley’s future plans for Main Street Stop consist of hiring another licensed massage therapist and continue to maintain and add a wide variety of self-care services for their clientele.
