In August 2024, Mitchell Fox, an avid hunter and outdoorsman, launched LogIQ Hunt, an innovative app designed for the future of hunting.
Having used various hunting apps in the past, Fox recognized there was a better way to hunt. With his background in research and development and agricultural technology, Fox began crafting a business plan in the spring of 2023 after consulting with Mitchell Kearns, the Technology and Commercialization Director at Iowa SBDC.
With his background, Fox was well-positioned to leverage the SBDC’s resources, setting up LogIQ Hunt for success.
While developing LogIQ Hunt, Fox was focused on creating a unique experience for users to help them “prepare with purpose, pursue with precision.” Some distinctive app features include high-quality mapping, advanced weather forecasting, and trail camera photo management. Developed with the consumer in mind, the app’s features are ever-evolving to meet user needs.
Within the app, users can choose a free or pro subscription. With the free, basic version, users experience LogIQ Hunt waypoints, up-to-date satellite imagery, nationwide property boundaries, 5-day weather forecasts, real-time satellite and radar maps, and trail camera photo management.
The pro subscription costs $29.99 annually and includes all features of the basic version, nationwide land ownership data, extended 15-day weather forecasts, eight comprehensive weather layers, important data from competitor apps, driving directions to saved properties or waypoints, and multiyear trail camera photo storage.
Throughout the development process, Fox devoted much of his own time and resources to see LogIQ Hunt come to life. When asked how he did everything as the sole business owner, Fox replied, “If you focus on taking care of the small stuff one step at a time, the big things will come together.”
Reflecting on his experience with Mitchell Kearns at the Iowa SBDC, Fox emphasized how Kearns helped him take everything one step at a time and prioritize what was important. By working in sprints, Kearns provided the motivation that helped Fox continue moving forward.
Looking to LogIQ Hunt’s future, Fox plans to expand his team to include members specializing in marketing and social media. Reaching 10,000 downloads is also a goal Fox intends to achieve by actively incorporating customer feedback to customize and improve the app’s features.
Mitchell’s Advice: It is easy to get caught up in the big picture, but if you take care of the small steps, the big things will come together. Find someone with the same mentality as you, don’t listen to the outside noise, and always continue the grind.
