As Regional Director of the Iowa Small Business Development Center at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Sue was honored as the 2011 Iowa “State Star” by the national association of Small Business Development Centers – America’s SBDC.

America’s SBDC annually recognizes Small Business Development Center personnel for demonstrating exemplary work performance, significantly contributing to the organization’s economic development efforts, and showing a strong commitment to small businesses.

Pitts, who’s been with the organization since March 2004, was nominated by her associates for the honor. She was honored at a special reception held during the America’s SBDC national fall conference in San Diego, California on September 6, 2011.

“Sue’s peers have recognized her hard work and dedication to the businesses in the seven counties served by the Iowa Western Community College Small Business Development Center,” says Iowa SBDC State Director Jim Heckmann, “as well as for her innovation and expertise in the social media and online marketing arena. She very much deserves this national recognition.”

Mark Stanley, Executive Director of Economic and Workforce Development at Iowa Western Community College, Council Bluffs, adds, “Sue is fully invested in the success of her clients, she is passionate about entrepreneurship, and she is a talented consultant. By combining these attributes, she provides a lot of value to her clients in southwest Iowa.”
